【神々の道具と作りしもの】尾作 隼人：アルチザンよ、愚直であれ！

小器用な作為から感動は得られない。至高の価値は、愚直という美徳から生まれるものだ。尾作隼人氏の仕事ぶりは、そんな真理を改めて教えてくれる。

Hayato Osaku／尾作 隼人
1978年生まれ。 銀座の老舗テーラーからキャリアをスタートし、2007年頃からパンツ専門のテーラーとして活動。日本におけるパンタロナイオの先駆けとなる。正統派のクラシックに独特の端整さを融合させた作風が持ち味。Born in 1978, Osaku began his career at a long-established tailor in Ginza, and has worked as a trousers specialist since around 2007. His signature style blends orthodox classicism with a unique, refined elegance.

 

 

 

　尾作氏が起こした型紙を見ると、実際の裁断線に連なって無数の線が引かれている。これは基礎線といって、裁断線を導き出すための起点となるものだが、それにしても普通より随分と多い。1本のパンツを仕立てるためにどれだけ綿密な計算が行われているかを物語る証拠だ。

 

「こうすれば理想的なカットになるという方法論が私なりにあって、それらは細部まで数値化しています。その計算のために基礎線の数が多くなってしまうんです。私が天才だったら、こんなに手数をかけなくても理想の線が引けるはずなのですが」

 

　氏のパンツは、骨盤や尻のカーブに沿って腰周りを包み込む設計が特色。これによりフィット感のよさはもちろん、クリースラインや股下などには端整な直線が生まれる。結果、 鉋（かんな）をかけたように研ぎ澄まされた佇まいに仕上がるわけだ。当然それは、膨大な基礎線による計算の賜である。

 

「独立から10年以上が経って、パンツ作りの解像度はかなり上がったと思います。完成形への筋道も明確に見えるようになってきました。でも、この不器用な作り方は変えられません。ただ愚直にやるほかに、いいパンツを作る答えを見出せないのです」

 

　我々を真に魅了するのは、服の奥から滲（にじ）むアルチザンの心だ。尾作氏が貫く愚直さ。それはまさしく、至高の輝きを放つ美徳ではなかろうか。

 

 

　Hayato Osaku draws countless lines in addition to the actual cutting lines on his patterns. These base lines serve as a starting point for deriving the cutting lines, but Osaku’s patterns have far more lines than usual. It’s a testament to the meticulous calculations that go into making a single pair of trousers. ‘I have my own methodology for achieving the ideal cut, and I quantify every detail. That’s why there are so many lines. If I were a genius, I would be able to draw the ideal lines without such effort.’

 

　His trousers are characterized by a design that hugs the waist, following the curves of the pelvis and buttocks, ensuring an excellent fit while creating clean, straight lines at the crease and inseam. Naturally, this is the result of countless calculations. ‘Over ten years have passed since I started my own business, a nd I believe the resolution of my t rousers-ma k ing has improved considerably. The path to the finished product has also become clearer. But I can’t change this clumsy way of making them. I simply can’t find the answer to making good trousers except by doing it with this foolish dedication.’ What truly captivates us is the artisan’s spirit that seeps through the fabric. Isn’t the ‘foolish dedication’ that Osaku upholds precisely the virtue that radiates supreme brilliance?

 

 

現在、ビスポークパンツ（右）は新規客からの受注を停止しているが、製作体制を鑑みつつ速やかに再開を目指している。近年人気なのは、パンツ専門ファクトリーのエミネントと協業したMTO（左）。伊勢丹新宿店などで行うトランクショーでは体型補整が可能。納期約1カ月～。¥41,800～ Eminento Directed by H. Osaku ちなみにトゥモローランドやビームスなどで既製も展開している。Currently, bespoke trousers (right) orders are not being accepted from new customers. Production will resume in line with manufacturing capacity. 右端のハサミは文化服装学院在学時から使用している年季の入ったもの。「特別な道具より、手に馴染んだものをできるだけ長く使いたい」と尾作氏。Osaku has used the scissors on the far right since his student days.

 

 

ビスポークの製作は現在、全工程を尾作氏が自ら担当している。Currently, Osaku personally handles every step of the bespoke production process.

 

 

取り回しを重視し、テーラー用アイロンとしては比較的軽いものを使用。「しっかりプレスするときは体重をかけて重量をカバーします。そのぶん労力はかかりますけどね」。Prioritizing maneuverability, Osaku uses a relatively lightweight iron designed for tailors.
